Lehigh Valley Opens the Season with a Victory

Allentown, PA:  The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (1-0) opened their 2017 NAL season with a win over the visiting Dayton Wolfpack (0-1). While there was some sloppy play early, the Steelhawks took care of business in the second half inside the Hawks Nest to claim a 66-25 victory.

After a sloppy first couple of series, the Steelhawks turned it around and began to dominate the game; holding the Wolfpack scoreless in the fourth quarter, and only allowing 7 points the entire second half.

Under the leadership of veteran quarterbacks, the ’Hawks offense only had one incomplete pass the entire game - 12-13 for 171 yards and 5 touchdowns (Warren Smith Jr.: 7-7, 4 tds, Ray Wagner: 5-6, td). WR Darius Prince was on the receiving end of three scoring passes and all of the receivers tallied at least one catch.

On special teams, Matt Tralli had some exciting returns including a 42 yard kickoff return for a touchdown; 106 total return yards. Kicker Spencer Hotaling also chipped in ten points – eight on point after attempts and a deuce.

Defensively, LB Joe Koonce was all over the field; recording 12 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, and a forced fumble; including a tackle resulting in a safety. DB Eddie Davis III proved to be a ball hawk, snagging three interceptions and three pass break ups. The defense also added a touchdown when DL Tommy Dover recovered a fumble and returned it 21 yards to the house.

By scoring more than 50 points, the Steelhawks completed the Domino’s 50 point challenge! Starting tomorrow, for the next three days, fans can get 50% off menu priced pizzas online using the store SH50 or mention the Steelhawks 50 Point Challenge when ordering.
